1) We need a method that will allow us to do something useful with our old drives.
2) Third or Forth backup is a great place for them
3) A Concatenated setup makes that easy

Is JBOD different than a Concatenated?

I just want to take a bunch of drives and address them as on directory?
I've been using Apples Disk Utility and Concatenated until El Capitan.
Now I have to go into Unix to make that happen :(

Can you help with is process?

RAID 0 is very different from concatenation.

A concatenation volume is simply virtually stacking disks one after the other to make a larger volume. There is no redundancy, no performance benefit, plus the added risk of losing all data if any disk in the concatenated volume fails.

A stripe volume is like a second lane on a highway, it permits up to double the throughout, with the additional risk of losing all data if either disk fails. But there is a solid performance benefit/data loss trade off, (the benefit which is lacking in concatenation).

In a stripe volume, all partitions are the same size. Concatenated volumes use any size disks, so a user may be tempted to add a 500GB drive to a 2TB drive, where the older disk is at a much higher risk of failure. In an era of $100 disk drives, concatenation is not a feature we plan to support.
