You need to boot from another disk. Install OS X onto a Thumbdrive and then you can convert the disks.

Will this erase my data on those drives?

No your volume will remain intact when you convert.

Will the convert function work with an existing Raid 10 array? I have 6 x 6TB drives in a raid 10 that i want to use SoftRaid to manage. it was setup with AppleRaid using Disk Utility. If i use the "Convert" function in SoftRaid 5.5 will it work? will i lose my data?

I have 9TB of information so copying it over and recreating the array in SoftRaid is not an option.

thanks

Sorry, we cannot convert a RAID 1+0 array from Apple at this time.

To convert startup (boot) Apple RAID 0 to SoftRAID 0 I need to boot from other MacOS and convert it there? Current booted Apple RAID 0 (disk0 and disk1) shows as unmounted (Unknown Format - disk3 Apple_CoreStorage ) and disk4 as CoreStorage Volume (Logical Volume on disk3). I'm correct? Is it possible expand volume after successful convert to SoftRAID 0? Before I had 2x1TB and now 2x2TB.

Thanks.

If your Apple RAID is in Core Storage, we may not be able to convert it, but if not, SoftRAID will generate an error trying to convert.

Yes, you can resize a SoftRAID volume if all the disks are now larger.

I don't get how you can create AppleRAID without Core Storage! I have created it with Disk Utility. Is there other method? To convert current Apple RAID 0 to SoftRAID 0 I need to do it on other MacOS boot drive?

Unmount your volume
Convert with SoftRAID

If that fails, then you need to either convert the disks to GUID standard format. (I have not tried this on Apple RAID disks, though), or start over.

Yes you must do these steps when another volume is booted, as a mounted volume cannot be converted.

I recreated Apple RAID 0 and restored files. Now I can convert Apple RAID (without Core Storage) to SoftRAID. Maybe I could not convert before because I have played with FileVault. Have you any experience with APFS. How about converting HFS+ to APFS! Is it possible?

You can convert standard Apple RAID volumes to SoftRAID yes. (Mirrors and Stripes)

We do not yet support APFS, but are working on this and will announce on the forum when we are ready for public testing. You should be able to conver SoftRAID volumes to APFS, we will announce whether we have tested/confirmed this in the SoftRAID release notes.

Hallo there! Can you be more specific about this procedure ? Once I have booted from the thumbdrive do I need to install SoftRAID on it?

Startup from another volume (thumbdrive for example)
Select the volume in SoftRAID.
From the Volumes menu, "Convert"
This will convert your volume to a SoftRAID volume.

We do not support APFS yet (until version 6), but should be able to convert Apple RAID to SoftRAID that are APFS also.
