I have a 4x4TB raid (RAID 5) and replaced one of the 4tb with 8tb, but SOFTRAID only sees 4TB of the new drive. And wont allow a resize of the 12TB volume. What am I missing?

All partitions in a proper RAID volume are the same size. Not until you replace all disks with larger ones can you resize the volume.

There are some pseudo RAID configurations that allow what you are desiring, mostly hardware RAID, like Drobo. We do not support this and probably never will. Sorry.

Quickest way of course is a new volume, etc.

But you can do this in place. Yes you add one by one until all are replaced. then "resize volume" to expand the volume to maximum and double your volume.

(based on your question, I assume you know the process of remove/add disk)
