Here is a new thread for SoftRAID 6.0.1 beta feedback. The current beta (as of February 12) is b52)

The idea is give everyone a chance to see what the current beta is, and new features added to each beta. We are going to start adding features to the SoftRAID beta versions now.

IMPORTANT NOTE: for M1 users.... Big Sur 11.2 blocks the SoftRAID driver. we were expecting a fix in 11.3 beta 2. However, it does not fix the problem, M1 computers can only run SoftRAID with 11.1. There are threads in the M1 section to discuss this.

New Features in beta 52:

Improved the logging code in the SoftRAID log and fixed instances where log entries were truncated. The goal is to log all significant actions into the log, even minor tasks like adding disk labels. The correct SoftRAID version will now be displayed in the SoftRAID log when launched (prior beta versions showed "null".

Added user interface element to support gathering disks into "enclosures". In this beta, disks are sorted by enclosures, so it is easier to identify disks when a user has many disks. This will help when we start adding support for APFS volumes.

The Volumes tile for an APFS volume shows as "Unknown format" - still working on full APFS support I take it?

Just installed b52 on my Big Sur 11.1 M1 Mac Mini. So far so good. Thanks for grouping enclosure disks together when viewed in Softraid app. Much appreciated!

@pruthe

This will have more refinement in next beta or so, also.

@softraid-support Just set up my new MacBook Air M1 with my new OWC TB3 dock with the 3 TB3 ports, so that I can have my Thunderbay 4 and my LG5K connected in parallel, and turn off the Thunderbay 4 without also disconnecting the LG5K (something I couldn't do with my CalDigi T3 Plus, which is otherwise an excellent TB3 hub!), and noticed that SoftRAID stopped working again with 11.2.1 :-/

Is the issue causing this in Apple's court, or yours? Gonna have to connect my Thunderbay 4 to my INTEL MBP 2018 again, in the meantime...trying to finally get rid of my MBP 2018, since my MBP Air M1 does everything it does, only better...save for running SoftRAID ;)

@tillkruegerYes, it is an an Apple issue. We hope the next public beta 11.3 will fix this perhaps the expected Tuesday release.

@softraid-support At what point after a beta is released would you post whether it fixes the issue?

@tillkrueger

As soon as there is a public confirmation from any user. Then we can write about it, announce, etc.

The user interface isn't show all of the disks associated with my volume.  They are there, just no green bars to them.  Two out of four have them...

I know, wait until we complete the user interface for APFS. Its not as trivial as it appears to link disks to volumes when disks can have multiple containers, and volumes and volumes and containers can have multiple disks.

Not sure how to rename a RAID volume? I have renamed it in the Finder, but the SoftRAID application still shows the volume with the old name - I've restarted the Mac but no change.
