It has previously worked on my 2013 Mac Pro running Big Sur. I am currently on Monterey 12.0.1. I had a license for SoftRaid 5, and I want to make sure that SoftRaid will work with my new setup before I buy an upgrade. I've added SoftRaid to the "Full Disk Access", I've reinstalled the drivers, and nothing. I can see the drive in the list on SoftRaid, but I cannot interact with it. I can't mount, change Safeguard status, etc.

I have an iMac Pro 10 core -- using OWC raids and SoftRAID beta -- Big Sur. Not sure if anyone else has seen this issue, but the iMac has started getting a power issue; It shuts down if the heat, or processors get too hot. I have a BU battery/Surge protector and when it loses power, it beeps. Often when playing video or exporting video I'll get the "beep" of power loss -- it is intermittent. Thinking it was a hardware issue, I brought it back to Apple and they did tests on it and couldn't find any hardware issues. They wiped the drive and reinstalled Big Sur from scratch. I restored from time machine and reinstalled the Beta software. So far so good -- except for a startup beep (lose of power) when I booted up this morning.

Just reporting what's happening, in case anyone else has had this issue.

Apparently one of my 4 Seagate 3TB Barracuda drives has failed in my OWC Thunderbay enclosure. macOS will not boot at all with drive attached -- it gets to the startup chime and then promptly restarts. If I unplug the Thunderbolt cable and allow the machine to fully boot first, launch the SoftRAID app and then plug in the enclosure, the volumes on the RAID 5 array briefly mount with appropriate error messages (see attachment screenshot -- aside, why the heck aren't PNG file types allowed for attachments?! That's what macOS generates by default for screenshots) but the machine kernel panics and crashes within 30 seconds.

RAID 5 is supposed to be able to survive a single disk failure, right?

Hey All,

I am about to undergo the upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave. I have all the details/hardware ready to ensure i have METAL support in the GPU, but where I am drawing a bit of a blank in my prep is how to handle my RAID 5 setup with SoftRaid.

I need to first upgrade my BootRom via High Sierra upgrader. This will require me to boot the high sierra installer from a AFPS formatting drive, which currently NONE of my drives are AFPS.

This will require me to pull my raid array (3 different disks) out of my Mac Pro. I've never done this before. So my first question is simply:

Question #1) TO safely dismount them, I just turn my computer off, and pull all three raid drives, and turn my computer on correct?

Next, once I upgrade my BootRom, then my GPU w/Metal Support, I'll be upgrading to Mojave. Once Mojave is updated, to reactivate my SoftRaid array I land at this question:

Question #2) Do I simply shut down again and install the 3 disks and start up SoftRaid Software (currently on 5.8.4)?
