                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>@softraid-support There is no confusion - I have created a RAID 5 array with 3 disks on SoftRAID, and it only sees those disks on the left column (on the right column there is the RAID 5 "Volume" reference with three green lines connected to those three disks. Other disks are autonomous and not part of the RAID. In fact, my LaCie cannot even create RAID 5 by itself.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p>You may be confused, if SoftRAID sees ALL the disks, then it is in JBOD mode.</p>
<p>If LaCie controls the disks, anotherwards, SoftRAID disk colume does not see the 3 disks, but just one, then it is controlled by hardware and you  cannot move it to another enclosure</p>
<p>JBOD is a setting on the LaCie end. When you use hardware RAID, the computer cannot even see the drives behind the "LUN (like a virtual disk) that is the hardware RAID.</p>
<p>the easy way to know is if SOftRAID sees 5 disks. If it does, you are OK. If it sees "3", (the RAID and two disks), then it is hardware RAID and you cannot move the disks.</p>]]></content:encoded>

As long as the used RAID disks do not change, would I risk losing anything or having to reformat everything if I move them to that new enclosure?</p>
