Hello:

I recently switched out a MacMini to MacStudio operating under MacOS 15.6. All four disks reside in a ThunderBay4 purchased in late 2018 (maybe late 2019). SoftRaid/Thunderbay 4 has been an issue until now. SoftRaid v.5.8 Driver v5.8

This AM, SoftRaid generated a warning for that Disk 1 (4505 hr) "developed a disk failure predicted” Shortly thereafter, the remaining three disks show i/o 14 errors. These disks have a been in use anywhere from 5900 to 12500 hours. I have unmounted the array and rebooted the computer. Still the errors remain.

It seems unlikely to me that suddenly all disks have errors.

Can you provide me direction as to what to do.

Sincerely,

Don Barar

To keep this short: made the leap from MBP Intel to a Mac Studio M2. Took a month between arrival and leaving for the holidays to get the new computer setup. It shipped with Sequoia.

I own a Pro license for SoftRaid 7 but was always of the impression that it would no longer be supported on newer operating systems. Is that impression correct? When I go to the purchase/download page, it only shows compatibility up to macOS 13 (Ventura), but as I began to dig through the forums I found support mentioning that 7.6 would load on Sonoma. Because that appeared to be an official SoftRaid reply to someone on the forum, it made me wonder if I was mistaken. Will SoftRaid 7 still work on newer macOS or not? Not sure what the status is with Sequoia. Seriously considered a clean install downgrade to Sonoma with the new Mac Studio but finally decided to leave the machine "as is" and update anything/everything that needs to be in order to work smoothly.

I understand developers need to renumeration and don't have any major problems updating to SoftRaid 8, but before I spend the money (given the massive hole in my bank account following the Studio purchase), I wanted to confirm that it's really necessary to do so with the new hardware.

Also, is it still necessary to disable Secure Boot to load the drivers with SoftRaid 8? (just so I know what I'm getting into when I make the switch).

Thanks as always.

Friday evening I was switching my monitor Thunderbolt cable from a work laptop back to my Mini, and I must have nudged the Thunderbolt cable that connects the ThunderBay 6 as the time from the log below matches up. The Mini’s system had been sleeping for quite some time and did not respond, stayed in it’s sleep state.

When waking the Mini later that evening I got a warning from SoftRaid that “Disk for SoftRaid Volume has disappeared”. The Raid volume was not on my desktop and upon opening the SoftRaid application, none of the disks nor the volume appeared.

At the current time I do not want to upgrade. I've turned check for updates to OFF in the preferences, but I am still getting the messages - five times in the last 2 hours!

Is there another way to turn off those messages, or is it possible block softraid calling back to the OWC servers to check for updates using Little Snitch or similar? I frequently leave my machine running automated tasks, but when the message window suddenly appear during a task it can sometimes cause those tasks to fail. Hence my interest in stopping them. If it was just once a week not a big deal, but several times a day is disruptive.

Hi there, new to the forum. I have been running a Thunderbay Flex 8 off of a 2019 Macbook Pro with 7.6.1 with the 7.5 driver shown. I just tried to connect my new Mac M2 Studio Max running latest Sonoma (14.4) with 7.6.1 with the 8.0 driver shown. I see the Raid 0 NVME volume in the Thunderbay and all of the other volumes connected to the Studio, but not the two additional volumes on the Thunderbay. If I reconnect to the 2019 Macbook, they pop right back up. Is there something simple I am missing?

Thanks!
