APFS has so many more features, so use APFS. its performance issues are not really noticeable on SSD's.

Can you give me details on what happened? I want to test this. RAID 4 should not cause such an issue, and if it is related to SoftRAID, rather than APFS, I need to test to try to reproduce this.

Thank you for your open and honest feedback regarding APFS.

"APFS is not quite yet as stable as it should be ...", is what you said.

Fair enough.

We live and learn, therefore I'm back on HFS.

All 9 disks are up and running again and to answer your question, I use 2 OWC Express units plus a Samsung X5 that sits on my desk and is permanently connected.

All's well that ends well, but I do want to point out the following message. ***see attachment***

It popped up while creating a volume.

Just like earlier this year SoftRaid wants to steer me towards choosing APFS.

Leading me to believe it to be my best option.

Presenting it as the only sensible option, because neither HFS nor ExFat are mentioned.

Long story short, APFS works well ... untill it doesn't.

I've learned that a Raid 4 (format APFS) is rendered useless and the data inaccessible after a single disk fell out-of-sync. Something I find rather unsettling.

For me reliability and peace of mind outweigh performance increase any day.

So it might be wise to update/review/revise this particular in-app message in an upcoming SoftRaid update.

This is only a suggestion, of course.

Your missing disks are physically missing. What enclosure are they inside of?
