I need to remove one unneeded partition, then expand both of the remaining partitions to recover that space (equally), and to not lose any of the data in the two good partitions.

I was under the impression that removing one partition and expanding the others was limited to removing the "last" partition and only growing the "next to last" partition. That's not what I want to do - I need to split the freed up space between both the remaining partitions.

My assumption is that SoftRaid tools can't do this kind of re-partitioning, so I will have to do it by creating a completely new layout on a separate disk, copy the data over, and then re-assemble the mirror against the new layout disk.

Or did I miss that 6.0.2 can do more comprehensive re-sizing?

You need to run the 6.0.5 Application to resize the volume (expand it).

You do not need to install the driver, just run it, resize, quit, then run 6.2 again to reset the path to the application so the menu bar launcher works.

Do you still have 6.0 on your system?

were there any surprises or is there a better way to re-partition and reallocate a large mirrored pair of drives?

Let me test this out for you tonight. I want to make sure there are no other introduced issues.

The current setup is a 2-drive mirror, 10TB each drive, split over three partitions. I need to convert this to 2 partitions, deleting the unneeded partition and re-apportioning the data into the new larger two partitions.

What's the best way to do this? For example: 1) split the mirror. 2) reformat one member and repartition it into new config. 3) Copy the data from the old 3-part drive to the new 2-part drive 4) using the new drive as base, re-build the mirror

Does that work? Or is there a better way? I have a spare 10TB drive if that helps.

SoftRAID can only expand the last volume on a disk. So if you delete the third volume created, yes you can resize the "second" volume. You cannot resize the first, unless you delete the second also.

thes are the originally recorded order of your volumes.

Also, we have a bug in 6.2 that cannot resize, so whe you are ready, run 6.0.5, do not install the driver (click cancel when prompted), then try to resize.

Can I delete a volume on a SoftRaid mirror, and then expand the other volumes on that mirror to take up the freed space?

Details: SoftRaid 6.2, Mojave 14.6, two 10TB drives in mirror config. HFS+ formatting. Three volumes, but I only need two. Would like to delete one of the volumes and expand the other two.
