Hello,

On MacOS. I've been running SoftRAID on my 10 year old Thunderbay, and it has been a great product. Currently, I do not run premium, but am considering it for the ability to monitor SMART status on USB attached external drives used for Backup. The product sales page for SmartRaid premium says it can do this "With version 8.6, monitoring extends beyond Thunderbolt to cover nearly all USB-connected drives as well."

I've been unsuccessful finding out if the following OWC docks are compatible in that manner; i.e. they are capable of passing SMART status (I suppose through UASP or SCSI/ATA translation).

OWCTCDRVDCKSN: NVMe U.2 + SATA Dual-Bay Drive Dock

OWCTCDRVDCK: SATA Dual-Bay Drive Dock

Can anyone from SoftRAID support speak to these particular combinations passing full SMART data for health monitoring? In my mind, OWC certainly would have tested their own products in this respect, prior to saying it is compatible with nearly all USB-connected drives, though the sales team says they can't say.

Thanks so much!

Apologies if this has been covered, i saw a similar question previously posted but it wasn't exactly the same Akitio model and softraid version. I'm currently running softraid 5.8.4 on an Akitio Thunder 2 Quad enclosure, in a RAID 5 config. I'd like to upgrade my OS to ventura soon, of course along with softraid. Plugged in my license info and didn't see any upgrade offers unfortunately.

Can i safely try Softraid 7 XT with ventura and my Akitio (instead of the softraid pro version) without any ill-effects on my data, other than perhaps the volume not being recognized? If that doesn't work, is it a given that the softraid PRO version would work with the Akitio?

Is there actually a technical difference between the pro and xt versions of softraid, or do the OWC enclosures simply get more of a price break because of less potential issues (as i assume these models have been more heavily tested)?

thanks!

I am thinking of purchasing this system as a working drive to edit a single video project off of (likely 8TB to 12TB of storage at a time) with my larger server to just store data for projects not in use. I am having trouble determining what type of speed and storage space I would get from one of these when set up.
