Replacing the enclosure is simple also, it will just work with the new enclosure.

good luck!

Hi, i have a OWC 4 bay Mercury Rack Pro that stopped working. It was configured as 4 independent drive channels and i was running a Raid 5 with SoftRaid.

Since the repairing process in warranty will take a long time and i have 4 USB ports on my mac mini, i wonder if i can just buy 4 cheap USB 3.0 independent 1 drive enclosures and continue to access my volume meantime.

I did numbered the disks from left to right as they were in the OWC Enclosure but not the "Softraid order Number".

So my questions are:

1) Is this possible?

2) If yes, does it matter the order i plug the individual disks?

2) If yes, do i need to turn all the disks on before turning the mac mini?

3) If yes, and 2 cases fail (ie power supply failure) but the disk are ok. Will my data be protected if i just replace the enclosure??
