With the T2 chip, it prevents hackers from installing drivers.
At this time, there are no real exploits for Catalina, so SIP is more of a preventive.
Apple is on top of potential exploits. Not to say something could hit in the future, but Apple is being very proactive about avoiding nightmare scenarios.

I would not worry about SIP in the short term. But after you install teh driver, you can re-enable SIP.

the other thing that some users encounter, is the need to disable Startup System Security (set it to none), this allows to to prevent, or allow starting up from a USB drive for instance.

All this occurred after the final Catalina beta.]]></content:encoded>

So it is worth the hassle to disable SIP.
