I prefer Thunderbolt to USB. Faster, more solid and a better bus.

So consider the Thunderbay.

Hello,

I’m looking at migrating from a classic Mac Pro with internal SoftRaid Lite storage to external storage. (3x6TB RAID-0)

I really like the SMART monitoring and predictive failure features of SoftRaid, and they’ve saved me a restore from backup in the past.

My fear with moving to a ThunderBay or Mercury Elite is that I will lose some of these features as the drives aren’t connected via SATA. I’ve had OWC enclosures in the past that wouldn’t passthrough SMART.

Lastly, is there any benefits other than daisychaining to go with the ThunderBay over the Mercury Elite Quad knowing that I will be running SoftRaid Lite?

Thanks!
