I think most issues are display related. But officially this adapter is not supported for Thunderbolt 1.

I wonder if later Macs do not, if your experience has been that they give problems.

It is indeed bidirectional for disk drives. It does not support Thunderbolt 1 to 3, however.

Unfortunately the StarTech adapter I had on hand for that purpose does not work; turns out it is TB3 host to TB2 peripheral only. (I swear they altered the description since I bought it 😞 )

Does anyone have experience with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter for this purpose? The official description implies that it should be bidirectional.
