I cleaned a drive and made a new volume,(named mini 1.5TB) and then ejected the drive to use on a separate system, but it has left a 18MB volume (named mini 1.5TB) as part of a remaining drive that was mounted at the time.
What do I do with this ghost volume? I am concerned it will cause problems with the drive it now associates with. Can I simply delete it?
Softraid 6.05 Mac OS 10.13.6
18MB? post a SoftRAID tech support file so i can be sure, but most likely yes it can be deleted.
Interresting, as this does not come through via a support file. (it should). neither does the "diskutil list" show your volume.
Does this repeat?
If you quit/relaunch SoftRAID is it still there?
(I would not delete it, until we understand where it is coming from)
@softraid-support thanks for your reply, yes it does re- appear, it has re-appeared every time on 5 or so mounts of the associated drive.
could you see the screenshots? I don’t see them in the forum.
You can attach a screen shot of it in SoftRAID UI. (Convert to jpg to post)
If this is repeatable, then we can investigate and see what is causing it.
What are the steps to reproduce? Just connect the disk and then unmount/disconnect it?
@softraid-support, hi to reproduce I connect the associated drive (named: H3TB Proj) and both drives mount see screen shots
Phantom drive
Phantom detail
this is the actual drive
I cannot figure this out, but in the support file you attached the MiniTurus drive was not connected. Can you connect it and send me another support file?
@softraid-support, Hi here is a report with the phantom and the actual mounted + the associated drive. Thanks
I see the problem now, somehow you created a small volume on the other 3TB drive.
Disable Safeguard on the volume and delete it.
It is not a "shadow volume" it is an actual, but small, volume. Maybe you selected the wrong disk when trying to create this volume and selected that 3TB disk, which had 18MB of free space left.
@softraid-support I deleted the volume as you suggested and all is well.( I backed up first)
thanks for you help, much appreciated 👍
