Any updates on Softraid 6 ETA? Hello, I am looking at purchasing softraid, however given that V 6.0 is pending, I want to avoid buying 5.7 and then having to buy 6.0 soon after. Can you adviseETA and Upgrade process/costs to help with deciding whether to hold off or purchase now?

Sorry, we do not have a firm eta on 6.0 yet. We have started active development and want to have it out relatively early next year, but we build to a quality, not to timelines, so we cannot tell you anything firm until we are much closer to release.

We also do not know pricing. I can point out that the upgrade discount from 4. to 5.x was $90. It is possible we may follow a similar structure in our upgrade pricing.

We have been working on this behind the scenes. There will be a new beta in about a week, then regular beta's every 2 weeks or so.

any updates on ETA for Softraid 6. Even a note to say not releasing in May/June would be helpful.

Thanks!

How about a quick note saying it won't be released in May or June? ;-)

It will take some time still. There is a lot in SoftRAID 6 that has to be flushed out, including a new user interface to support APFS as cleanly as possible

Here is a different feature request. Not sure if it has been requested before.

I would like to be able to use the softraid app across machines. Example:

I have softraid on multiple machines and have to go to each machine separately to look at the log or do other functions. It would be nice to open softraid on 1 machine and choose which instance you want to view and work on. They are currently on the same network but remote via WAN would be a great feature as well.

Thx

Dick

Thx

Dick

Monitoring management is something we have been considering. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any latest info that can be shared? It's been about 6months since the last update -- thanks!

SoftRAID 6 is pushed into next year, probably a few months in. Can't say more than that.

Did a SoftRAID 6 beta program ever get underway? If so, can I sign up for it?

Its not yet a "public" beta, as we are not as far along as would be required for that.

But you can request by sending an email to support at SoftRAID.

thanks

Nobody has asked about the status of the ver 6 beta for three months so I will. I understand Apple doesn't allow booting from a RAID but since I have a 4-slot RAID, I could still reserve a single drive for backing up/booting the system drive and stripe the other three drives to use as a backup for my externally mounted data disk. Of course, these need to be formatted as APFS otherwise I can't back up my other disks to the RAID.

We are still working on SoftRAID 6, but 10.16 may require significant changes to disk drivers, we are waiting for more information. It is going to be a big change to correctly support APFS.

In your case, you can use one disk as Apple APFS format as a backup, and either use a 3 disk RAID for data, or use both/either time machine or Carbon Copy Cloner image backups on the RAID volume, depending on how much space you need in terms of files. (data)

Does that mean there will not be a SoftRAID6 for 10.15? You know, a lot people do not run the latest greatest operating system. I am typically a year behind the Apple update agenda, so 10.15 support with SoftRAID6 would be fine by me.
