Hi,
I'm currently evaluating softRAID and it appears I have problems almost immediately with BOTH of my brand new Seagate 8TB disks! I now need to get everything off the raid volume onto another drive so I can take the disks back and throw them at the manufacturer. The literature says to validate the disks. When I try, softRAID reports that it is going to take 39 DAYS and 18hrs to do that!!!!!! I currently only have about 1 TB of data on there. I'm sorry but how is that a reasonable and realistic amount of time to expect anyone who is worried about the integrity of their data to wait while their mechanically failing drives get stressed further from over a months worth of non-stop operation. How is this good or helpful?
A: Is this USB 2? look in the disk tiles at your disks.
B: Do you have it set to Digital or Audio optimization? If so, change to workstation, those are designed not to interfere with your work.
A: It's USB 3.0 and I don't know where these tiles are. I'm using the Windows version... that might be why I can't see tiles. Drives are definitely running over USB 3.0 though.
B: From memory I set the volume to workstation at set up but now that the volume is made, I can't see anywhere to verify that setting or change it.
Unless transfer speeds have tanked or the device has stopped reading, there is no reason that this should take longer than an hour or two at USB 3.0 speeds.
We'd like to work directly with you on this! Can you reach out to me at the SoftRAID Windows support team by opening a ticket at https://software.owcdigital.com/support/supportform/
We'll get an export of your system log and see if we can identify disk or connection errors that might be there.
