(You will not see 0 for reallocated sectors, or "Passed" by SMART test)

 

If you restat wihtout the disks connected then connect them after 2 minutes, the USB driver may load and report SMART.

 

SMART is always real time, but Apple makes it difficult to get SMART from USB devices.

They passed certification with flying colors and when loaded in another server they pass SMART without giving any errors.  I did re-certify them in the second server and then initialized them.  However, when I put them back in the original server where they failed they show the "disk failure predicted" label again.  Moving them back to the secondary server, the error messages are gone.  Is it possible that the secondary machine doesn't complain about the imminent disk failure since it is running SMART over USB?  Or, are SMART diagnostics written to a preferences file on the main server with the drive's serial number so that the error "sticks"?

Has anybody else have had this issue?

(Is the SMART check showing "passed", or is it blank?) A lack of rebuild can be more than one thing, but remember the volume has to be mounted read/write, so if there is minor directory damage, it cannot rebuild until that is fixed.
