This is more serious when the volume shows "unknown format'. I would remove the new drive. Then get Disk Warrior and run that on the volume. It has a very high chance of being able to recover the volume and your files. Thanks for the quick reply. Question: I won't hurt anything by stopping the rebuild as it does say "rebuilding , waiting for mount" ? It also says safeguard enabled.
