separate issue that requires no support but SoftRaid finally gave me scientific and validated data tonight that eliminated all question marks. A CFast 2.0 card for a BlackMagic Design camera had become wonky and wasn't being recognized by the camera. Loaded the card into the reader and opened SoftRaid to re-certify it. Didn't even get more than 90 seconds in the certification (and re-tried two more times) before it encountered a write-error and alerted me the disk should be replaced immediately. This one was real. Thankfully the card didn't totally die until last night's project had been off-loaded and before the next one had begun. Obviously I don't have those cards attached to the computer all the time like my other volumes so if there were warning signs leading up to that, I wouldn't have received the notifications without the CFast in the reader. I'm strangely thankful that I know what happened though and don't have to wonder, thanks to SoftRaid. Other than more money down the drain on an Angelbird card that didn't last more than two years, the SoftRaid part was well worthwhile!

If the disk reports SMART data (its not USB), then it may be OK. If this happens again, update backups, "remove disk", certify the disk, initialize, "add disk" and add it back. (the volume will work with one disk missing)

So best advice at the moment is keep an eye on it. Its possible it was a sector that fixed itself. had it reallocated a bad sector, the drive would have a status of predicted to fail.
