Its a directory issue. I would not copy files to the volume until you have it all backed up, as if the directory is damaged as bad as it appears, anything you write to the volume is likely overwriting "missing" files. So get your backup done before you do any testing!

Hi there! Quick update:

- After several restarts, the issue remains and I still cannot see the files. I can still stream them via Plex though. So odd!
- SoftRAID is not trying to resume my rebuild after the restart, so I'm assuming it did indeed complete. No other errors present.
- I tried adding another file to the folder just to see what would happen, and it seems to move just fine, and I can see it. However, Plex scans don't appear to be picking it up. Can't tell if that is a drive issue or a Plex issue.
- I picked up R-Studio and am running a scan for file recover (eta 17 days, oy!) and have another drive arriving this weekend to start pulling off everything I can still see on the volume.

Hopefully there's a breakthrough somewhere here, but still no idea what the actual issue or cause is. Hopefully if nothing else, the recovery method works.

In theory, working on the volume has no impact on files on the RAID. I do not know why it is "stuck" at 99%. If you restart, does it complete?

Its possible the rebuild did complete, but the notification process did not.

RAID is outside the file system.

I found some clues on repairing NTFS volumes:
https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step

An app called "Minitool", which is a front end to chkdsk (you will need some help to figure out how to run chkdisk on Windows, but it is very doable. Here is a Microsoft help page:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1469537/recover-repair-ntfs-file-system-on-usb-device

I notice most of the search results for repairing NTFS are dubious companies. Just so you know. I would not trust any of them.

It may be there are no quality directory repair apps any longer. (Like Disk Warrior on the Mac for HFS). There should be by now, NTFS is quite mature and well documented.

Hi there! Thank you for the quick reply. To add a bit of extra detail:

- I did indeed validate all three drives in the array. Each of them got the "Verified Disk: No Errors were found on the disk" message.

- I also tried rebuilding the volume. It actually started that one automatically after a series of blue screens that started this whole thing. Whatever happened started with that, and I've had no BSOD issues since letting the volume be while the rebuild happened. I suspect mucking with it and trying to alter files too much will cause issues though.

- The rebuild itself is still stuck at 15s. "Rebuilding Raid Volume 1 - About 15 Seconds Remaining" It is 12/31 as I write this and the logs show that the rebuild finished on 12/29. I've been letting it run for an additional two days but nothing else has happened, so I am unsure if the rebuild worked given I haven't noticed anything else change. I'm unable to interact with the volume other than to "cancel" the rebuild that the logs say has finished.

- NTFS to answer the filesystem question

- Thank you for the R-Studio recommendation. I am not familiar with the program but will check it out. Good to have a last resort, if nothing else!

Seems that your volume directory is damaged. I do not know how to repair volume directories on Windows. However, you could run R-Studio to recover files, copy them off, then erase the volume and copy them back. a bit tedious, but will fix this issue.

I am experiencing an issue that I am a bit out of my depth on. I have a SoftRaid8/Windows11 RAID5 array (32TB storage consisting of 3x16TB drives). I use a portion of this array to run my personal Plex server.

One folder should contain ~4000 files, since the issue began I can only see the first 400 files in the folder (in alphabetic order, not just random files).

When I look at the total storage capacity of the array it shows the space as being used, but examining the folder only shows the 400 files combined filesize.

Weirdly, if I go through Plex though I can still stream all my files as if they were still there.

I use SoftRaid and ran error checks on all my drives, it took forever but everything completed fine

I did a full rebuild of my array (took 21 days) but the problem still persists (the volume rebuild actually is hung on 15 seconds remaining for 3 days, but the log file says it actually finished 3 days ago).

Has anyone encountered anything similar? I'm just at a loss for how view the files so I can even pull them off the drive and start over again (likely with a mirrored setup)
