Yes your SSD is showing a failure sign. But when, is still pretty unknown. What may happen is some occasional hangs (rety times), which woudl be a good time to consider replacing it. Now, if you are more proactive.

SSD's should be able to correct all sectors, flash media, unlike HDD"s constantly reallocate sectors, and this is indicated by the "Wear indicator", which slowly drops with age.

Wish I could be more clear, but its hard to do so, without guesswork.

I have a OWC Mercury Electra 6G 1 TB SSD that SoftRAID flags as predicted to fail. The SSD is the boot drive in a used 2012 Mac mini that I purchased from OWC 9+ months ago.

The SoftRAID log shows:
Dec 5 11:14:36 - SoftRAID Monitor: The disk at disk3, Location: Thunderbolt, SATA bus, 931 GB is predicted to fail. This disk is 20 - 60 times more likely to fail in the next 2 - 6 months than a normal disk.
This prediction is based on SMART data retrieved from the disk. This disk should be replaced soon. SMART Attributes used for failure prediction are: ID 5 (Reallocated SectorCount) = 6, ID 196 (Reallocated Event Count) = 1413, ID 197 (Reallocation Pending Sector Count) = 6, ID 198 (Uncorrectable Sector Count) = 1413.

I was surprised that even with the predicted to fail warning, the SSD successfully completed a 3 pass SoftRAID Certify without errors. Is that because the problematic sectors had been mapped as unavailable by the SSD and were not accessed during Certify? Just curious....

I've removed the SSD from the Mac mini and have it in a Thunderbolt 2 "toaster" dock attached to a different Mac, which is also running SoftRAID. SoftRAID posts the same predicted to fail error.

I assume the SSD is unusable. Before I purchase a replacement, I wanted to see if I've missed anything or if you have any further troubleshooting suggestions.

Thanks!
Bill
