I've tried a couple more times and I can't get to clicking the affordance to display the disk identifier before the panic occurs. What I did notice these last two times is that the yellow triangle briefly flashed over the drive icon before going away. This all occurred in about 2s.

OK did some more testing and I have my USB3 drive connected and mounted now using a USB-C dongle. It mounts fine this way but still crashing as soon as I plug it into the USB3 port.

I think I know the problem.

I discovered a problem with USB enclosures where connected with USB A, can trigger a kernel panic. I am going to be testing this over the weekend to understand the scope. It appears to be a M1 compatibility issue, but I do not understand the scope yet.

@nwind

I will run some more APFS tests on some volumes over the weekend.

For the love of god can we PLEASE get a new beta that minizes the warning that it's a beta?  I get it at least 3 times a day and have other processor intensive tasks that I want in the forefront.  Plus it's really annoying.  TBH, one would hope that you would have a new beta more often than every 2 months...

New beta's are about monthly or sometimes less. It is in the list to reduce beta alerts in the next beta.

Might be unrelated, but when I connected Samsung T7 external USB-C drive (USB-C cable) to the Thunderbolt enclosure it caused immediate panic. Report is attached.

I have a new Mac mini with an M1 chip.. I've recently purchased Thunderbay 8 (w/ 6TB HHDs), downloaded the latest beta, followed the appropriate steps (certify, initialize) but each time I attempt to create a RAID5 volume I'm unsuccessful.

Any help would be appreciated !

LOG:

Jan 17 13:06:20 - SoftRAID Application: The volume create command for volume "RAID5 " () failed with an error (error number = 34).

@nwind

How is the T7 initialized? Disk Utility? HFS or APFS? Direct connect via C? DO they have a driver needing installation?

Also be sure you do not have a prior driver installed, so uninstall any prior drivers.

Did you do this first?

https://support.apple.com/en-lk/guide/mac-help/mchl768f7291/mac
Select reduced security and enable this:
Select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.

Then you must reinstall the SoftRAID driver. Click on the Startup volume in SoftRAID, and "reinstall SoftRAID driver".

Watch for the dialog box for System preferences, you must "Allow" OWC as an identified developer so the driver can load.

T7 was formatted with Disk Utility with APFS long time ago with my Intel MBP 16" and I was actively using it with no problems. It's connected directly with short UCB-C to USB-C (OEM) cable directly to the Thundebolt enclosure's port.

After panic rebut it's working fine. I'm using it for Time Machine.
