@softraid-support OK, so you do not need the stuff you asked from me, the files from the system running 11.2? Close to bedtime here in Austria, so do not know when I would get to it. Let me know.

@sunstarfire

Thanks, but yes, we have this reproduced now, so we can take it from there.

@softraid-support Awesome. I just ran into something I have not seen before.

  • all running fine in 11.1
  • bootet Mac in recovery mode
  • entered "csrutil disable"
  • reboot
  • kext would not load anymore, the usual, drive visible but not mountable
  • Had to re-allow "blocked extensions" in System Settings
  • system rebooted twice
  • after that, all works fine

Maybe this helps with tracking down that thing.

@sunstarfire

One thing I notice with Big Sur, is it often requires two restarts to change some settings. (like startup systems)

Hopefully we can fix the 11.2 issue very soon.

@softraid-support Yes. You activate the extension, system reboots, bar stops at (estimated) 85%, system boots again, all works. That is always happening. But I do not see a crash in the logs...

We have confirmed that SoftRAID driver does not load on an M1, with 11.2.

We are working on documenting this and how to revert to 11.1. This is my first draft, (Illustrations will be added later).

Any feedback is welcome.

Using Snapshots to revert to macOS 11.1 on an M1 Computer

Note: this does not affect data stored on external disks. This will not affect information stored on your Data volume, only the System volume.

Shutdown your M1 Mac.

Restart and hold the power key, until you see "Loading startup options"

Click on "options" and continue

Click on your startup volume
Select your admin account and enter password

Click "Restore from Time Machine"

In the info window, click "continue"

In the "Select a Restore Source" window, Select your startup volume and click "Continue"
This brings you to the Select a Local Snapshot" window.

Select the desired Snapshot
(generally, this is the last Snapshot on the list, i.e. you need to select the last Snapshot with 11.1, which will revert the system to this point in time.)

Click Continue, affirm again by clicking "Continue"

The system will automatically restart and startup from the restored Snapshot.

This is an Apple issue, we need to wait untiil the next update to macOS, which should be sooner rather than later.

@softraid-support

Official 11.2 is now out. Should beta Softraid M1 users hold off doing this update for now? Thx.
