@softraid-support I just signed up for the Beta program and when I launched the utility it asked if I wanted to download and install 11.1. Would you recommend? Thank you

Here's a solution to anyone need to downgrade back to 11.2 like I did after failing to verify that 11.2 was not in compliance with SoftRAID drivers on the M1 🤬

1) Download the IPSW Firmware version from here. https://mrmacintosh.com/apple-silicon-m1-full-macos-restore-ipsw-firmware-files-database/

2) Download  Configurator 2 from here https://apps.apple.com/us/app/apple-configurator-2/id1037126344?mt=12

3) Connect your turned off MAC M1 another any recent MAC running the latest software if possible using a USB cable

4) Enter the DFU mode on the MAC M1 (watch attached YouTube video on how to do this) ... timing is everything !

5) Once both MAC's are connected and M1 is in DFU mode, simply drag your download IPSW firmware MAC version into the dashed box with "DFU" ... the updated OS will then start to install into your M1 and should only take about 15-30 minutes to complete.

I was able to revert back to 11.1 from 11.2 using this procedure.

Just want to confirm this issue only applies the M1 Macs, not Intel Macs, which is where SoftRAID is running for me. Thanks,

Do you know how can I prevent it? 11.2 was automatically downloaded and will install itself upon reboot. Since things are a bit unstable it can crash and reboot itself then I'll loose access to my RAID.

I need to test this, but if it works, that may be fantastic for users who are stuck

@darren-curtis

I tested this earlier today and it gave me 11.2. The first version of 11.3 was just released, but it is not the one with the fix, that will be the next 11.3 beta.

@ironpig

I agree it is frustrating. Apple generally never makes driver level changes in a minor dot release.

The 11.3 beta will soon fix this.The 11.3 beta released today does not have the fix, the next beta update will definitely have the fix according to our source.

Mr. Oracle has an approach below that may work, I will test it shortly.

Please subscribe to our Critical Updates newsletter, we will update you when we learn of critical issues like this. We could not (because of beta non disclosures) send the Update out until 11.2 was released, but within an hour of release of 11.2, we notified all users who had subscribed of this problem. It only goes out when there is a critical update, it is not general or promotional information.

We have an informative rocketyard post coming, I will post it when it is up, that goes into a little more detail on what this issue was about.

@prl99

This change only affects the M1. The M1 is a new architecture, and it appears there are still fairly significant structural changes needed in the macOS to support it.

Intel machines have no problems. Worst case, you need to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer again.

@softraid-support cool, for some reason it gave me 11.1 and the install worked. Only problem is Safari won’t work until I upgrade to 11.2 which I won’t be doing because thunderbay 4 is mounting in 11.1. Where is the best place to be informed about a working version of 11.3 with regard to Softraid?

@nwind

If you uncheck the automatic  update button, it will nag, but should not update. Make sure you have a Time Machine backup of your system and you can go back should that happen.

I am also going to test the "Oracle"s suggestion, looks interesting.

All auto updates are off now, but it was ON before, so it's already downloaded.

I'm not planning to restart it, but if it will crash and reboots after then I have no control over it. I have TM and CCC duplicate.

@sunstarfire

The fix for SoftRAID is not in this 11.3 beta, it almost certainly will be in the next beta.

OK, so it does not make sense to install 11.3 for now, and we stick with 11.1…. I so hoped that the frequent USB/TB crashes the M1s have would be gone. Oh well :) Thanks for letting us know. Apple usually drops new betas every two weeks, so let‘s hope for 11.3 Beta 2.
