I occasionally get issues like this, but it is not SoftRAID caused, SoftRAID does not talk to the file system ,nor have any impact on these kinds of system settings.

I can use a utility to "keep awake" the drive which I really don't like as that feels like an unstable solution. I can't imagine I am the only person experiencing this issue. Is there any spin-down controlled by the firmware of the Thunderbay?

I am having an issue where the drive spins down to a sort of sleep mode which causes access delay in the finder. The checkbox for "Put drives to sleep when possible" is not checked. But if I access a file in the finder via quicklook, like a PDF, and then two minutes later access another file the same way, I have to wait for the spin-up to occur. This takes several seconds and is extremely annoying because of the delay.

Is there any way to control this? Why does the drive spin down when I am actively using the system and the system is no way near a sleep mode?
