That should be all you need, is recreate the volume with 64k, and copy the data back.

@softraid-support I'm in the process of backing up +8TB from my Thunderbay 4 in order to reformat the volume using 64k stripe unit size. Is there anything else I should be aware of in order to make this darn drive work again, minimizing my chances to create kernel panics.

I have to say it's very disappointing, to witness how long this issue has taken to get resolved. If I didn't have my old LaCie 2-bay RAID still around, I don't know how I'd transfer the files back and forth!

Please advise...

We are still waiting for a result from Apple engineering.

We have learned one new solution, which is using 64k stripe unit size on RAID 5 (have to delete/recreate your volume to do this)

There is an engineer assigned, but no results yet.

@softraid-support hi there - I'm still having a kernel panic on startup if I boot without removing a drive first. Currently running 6.2.1 public release. Do you know if the issue has been resolved, or if you're still waiting on something to make it work?

@softraid-support HI there Softraid support team, just wanted to report that I'm still able to mount my Thunderbay 4 RAID5 with no issues since SoftRAID 6.2.1 b7, running Mac OS Monterrey 12.1 on a 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max with the latest Softraid beta11.

(going to update to 12.2)

Not sure what happened since then but it's workings far. If you need any hardware/software information, let me know.

Yes this was a raid 5 crashing on startup, so I would have to remove a drive to get it to mount, and then put it back in after. much better now, thanks!

this was a RAID 5 volume crashing at startup? or was it crashing from Time Machine?

Whatever changes you made in 6.2.1 b9 has totally fixed my machine! I can now restart without having the crash. Amazing. Thank you!!!

Set the display sleep to never. that should fix this.

MacOS controls all aspects of sleep. the SoftRAID driver has no influence on sleep settings.
