I have beta 6 and it included the SoftRAID 6 driver. Make sure it mounts on Catalina next.

Mounts fine on my Catalina 16" MacBook Pro.  Refuses to mount at all on my Big Sur Beta 6 Mac Pro.

I will have to try another clean install of Big Sur, it worked the last time I tried. Our driver should be bundled with beta 6.

Open the /library/Extensions folder and see if the SoftRAID driver is there.

I presume this is it?

The .kext file is there for SoftRaid but the Thunderblade does not mount as a single volume.  Disk Utility sees the 4 .m2 drives separately but does not sense the 8TB Thunderblade as a mountable drive.

If you see the SoftRAID driver there, then it is available and your volume should mount.

Don't use Disk Utility. Your volume should mount with an ! in the disk icon. What you should do is connect it to a Catalina volume and make sure it still mounts there.

@softraid-support I have connected it to a Catalina volume and it mounts fine.  In Big Sur on a Mac Pro (2019) it does not mount.  Could it be a security setting related to T2?  I am puzzled whats going on here.

Good. It means the driver must not be installed in Big Sur. What version are you running? Beta 6?

If you run this in terminal, after connecting the disks, what is the output, if any:

sudo kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID

(You can copy/paste it in)

@softraid-support Beta 8 appears to have fixed this issue.  I now have the exclamation point on the Softraid drive icon, which I presume means the driver included with Big Sur isn't fully featured until you come out with the standalone app to accompany it (6.0?)

I realise this is a huge longshot, but, I just spent a small fortune (in AUD) getting SoftRaid 5 from OWC this morning for my about-to-arrive 4xNVMe drives.  However, I'm using Big Sur beta, and SR5 clearly isn't meant to work.  I know it's not supported yet and all, but, would be great to be able to try out a beta if/when it works.  Not sure how one gets that.  I suspect BigSur will be finalised pretty soon anyway, and it's probably about 1.5 weeks till my PCIe card arrives in Oz...hopefully I didn't just waste $300 on SR5 if I have to buy an upgrade for SR6.

We do not have a beta for Big Sur yet, but a SoftRAID driver is bundled with Big Sur, so your volumes can mount. We will let our users know when we have a stable beta for Big Sur.

@softraid-support Great to know!  Do you happen to have any sense of whether or not the next version will be a paid upgrade, or free?  I just bought the product, full version, this week, and can’t use it as I am on BitSur.  Would be incredibly frustrating to have to pay all over again in a few weeks when you likely release a compatible version.  All new computer and NVMe drives, eager to get it all going.  Thanks!

I just bought a new 16" MBP that is running Catalina. I have three OWC ThunderBay RAID systems all running RAID 1+0. Will these work in Big Sur with the generic driver?

Will there be an update to SoftRAID 5 to support Big Sur?

SoftRAID 6 has been promised for so long that I wonder if it will ever arrive.

I'm concerned that my investment in RAID systems is not going to be able to move to Big Sur.

We are still in development for the app that works on Big Sur. We will have it as soon as we can create a reliable application and driver.
