I've been trying to mount my Thunderbay 4 after updating to 6.0.4 and subsequently 6.0.5 with Big Sur 11.4, but have no luck.
I tried the steps in this: https://www.softraid.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/5.8_Volumes_Not_Mounting.pdf
and also this:
Run these commands one at a time in the terminal.app: (copy/paste them in)
sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
sudo touch /Library/Extensions
sudo rm -r /Library/Application\ Support/SoftRAID
sudo kmutil clear-staging
sudo kextcache -i /
restart and launch SoftRAID
When I click on "mount" it says "mounting" for few seconds and then returns to "unmounted". Wondering if there's something I haven't tried.
Please help!
Also, the GUI says all the 1TB disks (now showing up as "data and parity disk") have 21KB available, I remember them having much more available than that.
The disk tile shows how much space is available for new volumes. Not what is in the volumes.
I do not recommend using the command line to delete the SoftRAID driver, there are other components that are affiliated that should be uninstalled, so the "uninstall" command in SoftRAID is preferred.
Deleting extensions via terminal is more for older apps that are not disk drivers, and it is easier than finding old uninstallers.
Your mount problem is different. the volume had a dirty shutdown, macOS tried to repair it and failed, marking the volume as unmountable.
Do you have access to Disk warrior to repair it?
Oh okay, that makes sense.
How would I go about the repair flow with Disk Warrior? I haven't used it before.
Hopefully it's not a case where I've lost data, haha.
UNlikely from what I saw in the volume header. The way macOS marks the volume, it generally only does so with minor damage.
Just select your voume with Disk Warrior.
Rebuild.
When it is all done, there is a "Preview" option. Use this. Click Preview. My preference is go to the desktop and open the volume and look around. Open a few random files. Probably all will be fine. Disk Warrior also has a report on what will be fixed. If all appears OK, then "replace". When in doubt, take your time, as you cannot undo.
Thank you, I'll try that. And is there a version of Disk Warrior that needs to be purchased? From looking around it's only available in a flash drive and not a software download.
I am having the exact same issues.......
If I uninstall SOFTRAID and reinstall, it mounts fine before I restart, then after I restart the machine, it will no longer mount.
It should be available as both, once you purchase, then you can download.
Understand. Try using the terminal command to load the driver, each restart, as a short term workaround.
Just paste this in:
sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
@softraid-support. That worked, now when I restart, it loads fine. I had this problem under 11.3.1 and 11.4, now it seems fixed.
So I tried running Disk Warrior, but the replace button is "greyed" out. Is there something I'm missing?
Is there an error? (the directory is too damaged, or Could not replace because of a macOS services error)
Yeah it does say "The new directory cannot replace the original directory because the original directory was too severely damaged." But I am able to preview the directories (at least at the surface level).
The way the volume directory was marked, it should be easily replaceable.
Try again, or try from another startup volume, if you have one.
