It appears Apple thought it was fixed but obviously not. There was no kernel report generated, just SoftRAID and CCC reporting failure. My Feedback Assistant report has been updated along with an updated Sysdiagnose report. I am back to the workaround with Energy Saver Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping ON and Put hard disks to sleep when possible OFF. With those settings both SoftRAID and Carbon Copy Cloner are completely reliable. NOTE: Some of the drives used by CCC are connected via the USB 3.0 ports on my M1 Mac mini and do not go through the Thunderbolt 4 ports. FWIW, I recall similar external drive timeout issues in the early days of OS X preceding the advent of Thunderbolt that were amenable to the same workaround.

Launchpad, when launched displays the icons for all applications installed in /Applications and the application can be launched by clicking on it icon in Launchpad. In this case, and for whatever reason, the only app that refused to show up was SoftRAID. That was corrected in SoftRAID 6.2. 🤷‍♂️

No joy. 😫 After re-enabling put hard drives to sleep when possible and disabling Prevent Mac from sleeping when display sleeps, when I came in this morning there was a message that one of the drives in my array had failed. Additionally Carbon Copy Cloner backups had failed because "the target drives were not available" and the system had restarted during the night. So it appears that not only is the error not fixed, if anything, it is worse.

FYI the Feedback Assistant report number is FB9362019

Note: as long as Put hard disks to sleep is disabled and prevent Mac from sleeping is enabled everything is rock solid stable.
