I had a 40 TB Thunderbay 4 running well on a High Sierra machine. I need to connect it to a new Mac M1 running Monterey with SR63.. I've read all the posts and followed all the instructions for Monterey, yet when I run SoftRAID 6.3 it shows my RAID 5 as having 30 TB available (it doesn't) and unmounted. I try to mount it and it thinks about it, then says Unmounted again. (safeguard is disabled). Any suggestions?

On the new computer...
(We have a video coming soon that walks through all this!)

Did you do this?
https://support.apple.com/en-lk/guide/mac-help/mchl768f7291/mac
Select reduced security and enable this:
Select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.

If so, when you did the driver update, did you go to System Preferences / Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer?

After enabling third party extensions, reinstall the SoftRAID driver, (do not immediately restart)

A dialog box should pop up directing you to System Preferences/Security. Go there and "Allow" OWC, before restarting. then click "restart later" in System Preferences, and quit. Go back to SoftRAID and restart.

This is a new computer so there is no driver update. I have performed all the steps exactly as directed.

"After enabling third party extensions, reinstall the SoftRAID driver, (do not immediately restart)"  -- There is no "install" to speak of - I simply dragged the Softraid 6.3 folder to Applications. Softraid runs and see the TB4 but cannot mount it.

"If so, when you did the driver update, did you go to System Preferences / Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer?" -- "OWC" does not show up in the Security and Privacy.

"Go back to SoftRAID and restart." -  "restart" what? the Mac or Softraid?

(this all could be a little clearer - obvious a big issue for many people).

Firevault is not enabled.

thanks,

d.

Also, SOFTRAID 6.3 shows up as an identified developer in the Extensions window but it is NOT loaded.

Also, you should give the SoftRAID Application "Full Disk Access" in System Preferences/security/Privacy, by unlocking the pane and dropping the SoftRAID Application into "Full DIsk Access".

@softraid-support This must be the form reply you use as I just mentioned that I performed all the steps and replied with questions. I hope there is a human involved here somewhere, You could reread my prior message but I will make it simpler and I hoope I can get an actual answer this time. not another robot reply:

This is a new computer so there is no "driver update." I have performed all the steps exactly as directed so in reply did "did you do this" - YES, as already mentioned,

Also, SOFTRAID 6.3 shows up as an identified developer in the Extensions window but it is NOT loaded. (

(Firevault is not enabled.)

Give this set of conditions - "OWC" does not show up in the Security and Privacy. , identified developer but not "loaded" and drive recognized but will not mount - what is the next step?

thanks,

@dhmiller

There is never a robot answering here. It is always an expert on SoftRAID. However you must understand when when many users are given instructions, they ignore all or parts of them, when the symptoms are "standard" for an issue and there is a fix, you will get a reply that fixes the issue. So don't assume you are getting a bot (We do not have any such thing), or a simpleton reply.

When the problem is not resolved, and you confirm, then we can troubleshoot further.

Maybe the driver is quarantined by macOS. Paste this into the terminal. If there is no reply, good. If you get a reply, paste it here:

xattr /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

This is the command to remove quarantine, but it may not be enough to enable the app to launch.

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

@softraid-support: Please notice that in the comment of mine you are responding to I state that I used that exact command.

As stated directly above your comment: "I tried % xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext and got permission denied"

so to recap:

I tried % xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext and got permission denied

How do I get SoftRaid out of quarantine to mount the drive, or is this impossible? Are you incompatible with  the most recent Mac O/S?

You are not including sudo before the command, so it won't work. Try again, with the entire command I posted.

@dhmiller

What now, when you manually load the driver?

sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
