Monterey should work with 6.3. If you run in terminal.app, sudo softraidtool uninstall

do you get command unknown, or does it do something? If it does, restart and run 6.3 again.

Yes, that's right. The question is why no version 6 will launch. Not 6.1, 6.2 or 6.3. They all show the main window for an instant and then close without a trace. That is the problem.

The drive is working fine. We've backed it up. It's softraid that won't launch.

Is the Thunderbay acting normally now? the drives show up reliably? Next is figure out if this was a hardware issue, (cable for example).

If the volume is working, either backup/restore, or run Disk Warrior on it, so you know the volume and directory is OK.

Let me know what the status is on everything, otherwise I really don't know what to recommend.

Okay, thanks for that. So this implies that the driver is now and working. We have completed a full backup of the RAID. My friend needs to get some work done, but after that, what do you suggest as a next step?

The SoftRAID driver version has no real functionality differences, the driver mounts the volumes, for the most part. So complete the backup before going anywhere else.

Okay, we have some additional info & some success.

We booted the iMac into the Recovery partition and launched Disk Utility -- and the RAID appeared in Disk Utility.

We repaired the system disk (we had repaired normally before). But this time, when it's done and we reboot, the drive appears on the desktop. Hallelujah. So the drive is okay. It's something about the system drive that is a the problems.

We did not try launching SoftRaid yesterday because my friend (not my customer) needed to work and was thrilled to have access to the drive. We will try that on Monday. But previously, as stated, v6.3 would launch, the main window would appear and after about 1 second or less, would disappear (ie quit, I guess).

I'm not inclined to upgrade to v7 until we can ascertain that v6.3 at least launches. No need to add new variables to the current install. Unless you disagree.

Any other thoughts?

correction:
remember you cannot run 6.x in Monterey, your customer needs to run 7.6.

Should be:
remember you cannot run 6.2.1 or earlier in Monterey, your customer needs to run 7.6.

6.3 works, but best version is the current 7.6

Here is the summary:

6.0 is required for Big Sur. 6.3 required for Monterey. 7.0 required for Ventura. 7.6 required for Sonoma
