RAID 0 or JBOD solutions for Monterey RAID 5 Crash/Kernel Panics

I just purchased an M1 Macbook pro running Monterey,  and like many people here, I'm experiencing constant kernel panics when I use my OWC 4m2 and Thunderbolt 4 RAID5 arrays.

Support is hoping that Ventura will fix these errors, but I can't wait the additional one-two months for Ventura to become available, so I'm looking for other solutions.

Can anyone confirm that the problem is ONLY with RAID5 and not with RAID0 or JBOD?

My current setup/needs:

I am a professional cinematographer and work in photography & music on the side. I regularly work with 4k-8k video files, 62-megapixel RAW photographs, AIFF audio, etc.

I loved the old intel Mac Tower with four internal drives, and I've been trying to replicate that setup for years.

I use a Macbook Pro with two OWC RAID5 arrays.
I use the local drive for applications only and a 4m2 loaded with NMVe M2 drives as my fast work drive. That is backed up every night to a Thunderbolt 4 RAID 5 with traditional plate drives.

The 4m2 work drive is then backed up to Backblaze for off-site redundancy.

The options I'm considering:

Turn my 4m2 RAID5 work drive into a RAID 0 or JBOD

Turn my Thunderbolt 4 back up RAID 5 into a JBOD

Use this configuration until Ventura becomes available, then I turn everything back into RAID 5.

What will be the most stable, fast, and safe solution? Is RAID 0 that much faster than JBOD?

I appreciate any help you can provide!

I have not had any of these "DART" kernel panics with RAID 0. RAID 0 is much faster than RAID 5, also.

If you use one of the synch apps like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, etc. you can automate the backup process.

@softraid-support

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I've been running my work drive at RAID 0 for a few hours now without a kernel panic. It's also clocking speeds about 3x faster (I'm using a 4m2 enclosure), which is pretty impressive.

My backup is HDDs, and I'm not sure if it's wise to run RAID 0 on those, so I'll give RAID 4 a try until the issue is resolved and I can move back to RAID 5. Were you running into any kernel panics on M1 Monterey with R4?

Thanks again!

@orion_quest

RAID 4 does not suffer from this bug. It appears only on RAID 5 for some reason.
