@jwbuckl

I also recommend posting this in the Apple discussion forums. I do not know this panic, but it appears to be a thunderbolt bus issue, but not the same as the issue I have been tracking for the M1 and RAID 5 volumes.

You can see if a completely clean system panics, then add some of your apps one by one, tedious, but until you get some ideas what is triggering this, I am not sure of another way.

@softraid-support  Is your note above to say that I am on my own now with an expensive array that no longer works? That can't be, right? You guys are going to work on this, right? There is no way I can pull apart my production system and rebuild, app by app.

Since SoftRAID is not in the backtrace, its hard to know what to say. I can assist, but I do not see this exact crash on the Apple forums, which are not as valuable as they used to be, but sometimes you can get help there.

There are a fair number of different kernel panics with M1, it is still relatively immature. I know Apple is working hard to eliminate all panics, but I have seen three unique panics this week alone.

Did you post a SoftRAID tech support file? I don't see one from you, maybe I missed it.

@jwbuckl

Any chance you can attach a support file, when the disks are connected? its important for me to see everything connected.

@jwbuckl

The disks were not connected yet. ;-)

Still looks like the crash is in the Thunderbolt bus.

Are these always happening when encrypting files on the SoftRAID volume?
I assume you do not get any crashing when encrypting on non SoftRAID volumes?

@softraid-support. Yes, it has to be the TB bus and unique to the M1 MAX chip. Intuition anyway.

So there should be no encrypting of files on the SoftRAID volume. Do you see that? I see that Boxcryptor keeps coming up in the crash report. This is what I know additionally if it helps narrow the case - worked great with a old Intel MacBook with latest macOS. It was suggested that I remove Boxcryptor completely and try again. I did it. Hours of work. But...Same behavior but crashed on an Apple driver. I reinstalled the SR driver. Reinstalled SR from scratch.

@jwbuckl

I am curious if the change we made fixes your problem, let me know.

Please try the current SoftRAID beta version:

http://www.softraid.com/sr_beta

My recommendation is Uninstall SoftRAID. restart and run SoftRAID and install the driver. before restarting, go to System Preferences/Security to "Allow" OWC as an identified developer. this ensures that macOS actually loads the new driver version.

@softraid-support. Thank you for the beta code and sorry for the delay. I just tested it. I made three attempts to boot. The first crashed immediately on boot, second started populating SR with the disks like it was going to mount but then they disappeared but no crash and the third was a crash just after boot.

Oddly, it also took out my bluetooth Magic Keyboard which needed to be deleted and re-added and then worked again. The log data simply indicated (oddly) that the disks attached.

@jwbuckl

I may need additional information. Can you get me a system diagnose after a crash? I will need that for Monday.

When it crashes again, paste this into terminal and let me know when you have it.

sudo sysdiagnose -f ~/Desktop/
