I'm having this same issue. Thunderbay 4 mini. Brand new MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip on Monterey. Softraid 6.2 and 6.2.1 b3. Endless loop freeze/restart several seconds after mounting the RAID drive.

@srwdave

Can you attach a panic report generated after startup?

And a support file without the disks connected?

Does your system panic if one drive is removed? If not, attach the support file with 3 disks connected.

I'm having the exact same issue with The 4M2 drive (RAID 5, 4 2 TB NVME drives installed, No encryption). I've tried running the beta version 6.2.1 and the moment I plug the drive in it crashes. It also happens with the my thunderbolt 3 4 bay RAID enclosures as well. I ran the report after I crashed and restarted.

I have the new MacBook Pro M1 Max

Is there any work around for this?

@luminairefoto

In your case, you should change to RAID 4. With NVMe, it is slightly faster than RAID 5. That should work around this issue.

Let me know.

How about my Thunderbolt 3 Raid enclosures? I have 4 10TB traditional HD's in those. The same problem happens when I plug them into my computer.

@luminairefoto

RAID 4 will bypass this problem. As does removing one disk at startup (generally you can put it back after startup and it will rebuild.)

I have what sounds like a very similar issue, I'm afraid. Thunderbay4 RAID TB3 with 4 x 4TB in RAID5.

At first the crash reports had me thinking it was VirtualBox but it was completely removed then I suspected a new TB3 external volume might be the issue but that has also been disconnected and the system still crashes. No issues with Big Sur but since upgrading the issues have started.

I have a base model M1 Mac mini but was previously using an Intel Mac mini (2018). They both crashed the same way, even after I restored my data and settings to a clean install of Monterey 12.1. Apps were reinstalled manually.

My issue is similar as I don't see endless reboot loops but the symptoms appear identical. In my case the system seems fine for a few days then will randomly reboot. I notice this as the shared folders disappear.

Post a SoftRAID Tech support file and a txt of the panic log. This is a different issue, I think, I would like to see. Anything that happens on intel is not the M1/RAID 5 bug.

@softraid-support I've installed 6.2.1B9 so will wait to see if that helps. If not, I'll drop a panic log a support file as soon as I have them.

Thanks.

Almost a week but checked today and it's restarted.

Tech support file attached but it won't allow me to upload the panic .txt file (Filetype not allowed).

@amsterdamned

Get info on the file and see if it is actually filename.txt.rtf where it looks like txt, but actually is not. Make it plain text, then save as txt, it should work to upload.

this could be a variation of the same RAID 5 panic, but it should be happening at connection, not a period of time later. The clue is the beginning of the panic has:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffe0021739798): "dart-apciec1 (0xfffffe2332698000): DART(DART) error: SID

Still no luck.

Format is plain text but it's not having it. I even tried downloading one that had been uploaded and replacing the text with mine; same error.

Mine starts like this:

panic(cpu 6 caller 0xfffffe001b297cac): os_refcnt: overflow (rc=0xfffffe001e4805b8) @refcnt.c:73

In the meantime, I'm pressing on with the next beta - 6.2.1b12.

@amsterdamned

Sorry about that, I will ask about this next week.

I found this discussion on the Apple forums:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251318504

Go ahead and paste the entire panic report, then. It looks like its possible this is an M1 CPU issue.
