Additional information on SoftRAID
This is telling you that your disk subsystem is not reliable.
However, write problems are more often cable, connection, enclosure type issues, as writes are performed "blind".
You can attach a SoftRAID Technical support file, I can take a look for more detail

I am not sure yet. The drive is getting write errors, which is unusual.
What enclosure is this? It appears to be a WD raw drive, not in an enclosure as sold?
What if you connect it direct to the Mac? Or a different cable? By itself?
@softraid-support it’s the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 2-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Enclosure.
The enclosure is connected to a Caldigit TS3 Plus dock along with my other drives. It’s on an M1 MacBook Pro.
I can’t directly connect it to my MacBook since the enclosure is only Thunderbolt and not TB3. I use a USB3 from the enclosure to the Caldigit TS3 plus dock. Will try to find another USB3 cable.
The enclosure works because I have(had) a Softraid Raid 1. Im just trying to replace 1 disk. It’s a Western Digital Black 4TB.
This new disk I installed is not formatted, do I need to format it first before doing a “Certify”?
A certify operation is a very low level read/write operation on a disk. A disk should never fail a certify, it means it is not suitable for operation. Its possible this is a bad disk, yes. It is also possible it is something else, as I mentioned, writes are rare for a disk to fail, it is almost always on a read cycle, as the problem is the disk cannot read back what was written.
Write failures generally mean an I/O operation has failed, which can be the disk, but could also mean cables, enclosure, etc. But it 100% means something in your setup is not reliable for data.
Certify does not use the SoftRAID driver. It cannot be a "bug" in SoftRAID, FYI.
