I have a set of drives in external USB3 enclosures, and I just got a new 4-bay enclosure I am moving them into.
The first drive I moved (after powering off, moving drive, powering it all back on) was fine. SoftRaid recognized it right away and kept rolling.
The second drive, not so much. Whenever I move it from its old enclosure to the new one, or try it with my other SATA adapter, is not recognized as a Softraid disk.
If I put it back in the original enclosure, it's now recognized (though unfortunately needs resync because SoftRAID auto mounted the volume when it was in the other array and being unrecognized, and that got the array out of sync...)
This means that in order for me to move the remainder of my disks, at least two rebuilds of a 7X6TB array.
Not good. With bitrot on large drives and other possible problems (such as a drive going bad during rebuild), this could lose the entire array. I'm not ready for that.
How can I get SoftRaid to properly recognize a drive when I switch enclosures?

This is a hardware limitation of USB, I believe. In the USB enclosure it is seen as a 512 byte sector drive, then in the new enclosure, it is seen as a 4K sector drive.
this is my speculation but it fits your description.
There is no way around this, except re-initialize it and add secondary disk.

I'm thinking of shucking" hard drives that are external USB 3.0 10TB WD Easystore drives I have in Softraid as a Raid-0 mirrors, and putting them into a OWC Thunderbay 4 enclosure. In Softraid, the USB drives shows "available 512 bytes" Is this referring to the sector size?. I think these drives do have 4K sector sizes. If I move the hard drive into a OWC Thunderbay 4, would I need to re-initialize both drives?

That 512 is how much unpartitioned space is left.
You can use the drives as is in the Thunderbay, no problems, no changes.

It looks like all 6 hard drives I have which are softraid mirrors show "available: 512 bytes" This includes 2 drives I have in a Thunderbay enclosure, and the 4 external USB drives. They all have varying amounts of free space with at least 60GB free on each drive
, but with softraid 6.1, it seems to show the same 512 bytes available on all the drives. Is the 512 bytes the free space that is leftover after the partition is created, and not the unused space on the drive?

Its the unpartitioned space on the drives. Like the part of your property that does not contain the house.
