The reason is SoftRAID is intelligently able to mirror only the active parts of a new volume. A Validate updates parity on the entire volume, even bits that have never been used for data.]]></content:encoded>

I ran disk validation today and it shows around 150 blocks updated.  I have not run a validation since the volume was created.  

Is this normal?  If so, I was curious what causes two disks to become not identical over time, resulting blocks being updated
