SoftRAID 6.1 will be required for Monterey.
6.1 will also be add support for APFS in the release version of SoftRAID 6.1.
Post beta issues here.
So, SoftRaid stopped working with Beta3. When does 6.1 beta come out?
Thanks for the heads up, I will investigate today, will get a new beta out as soon as possible, once we see what is happening.
Nononono I was being stupid.
I saw 6.1b2 is out (did not see that before), and it works with Monterey Beta 3, it is just a little of a pain. Seems like Beta 3 disables extensions. Again. So you have to go through the "enable extensions from unknown developers" thing again. Then of course you need to OK that system extensions have been modified, and then it works. And it will not work if you only have a user whose home is on the Raid, as usual. So you need an admin user with their home on the Macintosh HD to complete the installation.
This is the new world. We are working on an idea to simplify all this, if we can get Apple support for it. Thanks for the feedback.
But once you got it running, it works reliably. No issues at all so far.
@sunstarfire It has worked for me. It did lose the custom icon that I gave to my OWC 4M2 enclosure, but that was an easy fix.
So, I just installed the latest Monterey Beta... this time, it worked like a charm. No hickups, install, and all working. Nice!
Hi, I don't know what's wrong with my beta version, but it works really bad for me. What could be the problem because I'm having trouble figuring it out?
Honestly, it's hard to explain, but everything is very laggy, I literally can't do anything.
FWIW, I'm having exactly the same problems with SoftRAID 6.1b on Monterey b4 as with SoftRAID 6.05 pro on Big Sur 11.5.1. That is: the SoftRAID driver does not load & also kills other drivers on the system (a real drag in this recording studio); this includes Thunderbolt drivers for Antelope Audio devices, Universal Audio devices, Blackmagic DeckLink etc.
Have read the other 'fixes' for SoftRAID 6.05 on Big Sur but was also under the understanding that this was a 'Apple bug' in Big Sur & should not be present in Monterey. Apparently not, or for now at least.
Have done the recommended uninstall and re-install, cleared staging etc sudo kmutil clear-staging & sudo kextcache -i/
No change.
Have also tried a complete uninstall of all components and preferences with SIP disabled etc as & per 6.05 advice at https://forums.softraid.com/functionality-issues/6-0-5-upgrade-raid-wont-mount/
No change.
The only thing that works consistently is to manually mount, ie:
sudo kmutil load-p/Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext (then SoftRAID mounts its drives, but still no other TB drivers are available)
Then sudo touch /Library/Extensions (and all my devices then come back).
MacPro 7,1 macOS Sonoma 14.2, 16 core, 2TB /192GB, Vega II Duo. 8TB Thunderbay 6 RAID 4, 2TB Sonnet M.2 4x4 RAID 0. UA Apollo x8, UAD-2 quad, Decklink MiniMon 4k. Dell U3419W & BenQ SW2700PT. FaderPort 16, KK S61, Nuendo, Wavelab, Live, Logic, Resolve Studio.
What we have posted is we expect this driver issue to be fixed in Monterey, but it is not fixed as of yet.
SIP only needs to be disabled in Catalina, BTW, so go ahead and re-enable it, that is not related to this.
Post a SoftRAID tech support file, let me look for any possible obsolete drivers that could be involved.
The command:
sudo kmutil load-p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext
can also be used with other drivers, if you need to manually load them. A pain, but may address your problem. You can also redo the commands in terminal with the "up" arrow, so it is easy to access them.
Lets suppose you need to load a driver mycoolvideodriver.kext in the /Library/Extensions folder (you can see all the drivers and their paths using System Profiler/extensions and sort "Obtained from" and scroll down)
the command would be:
sudo kmutil load-p /Library/Extensions/mycoolvideodriver.kext
Not ideal, but if we cannot get you going, a short term workaround.
