Figuring out licensing options can be a bit messy, yes.

In your case, I would keep the Time Machine in Apple Disk Utility format. the only real gain in SoftRAID format is tracking disk errors, not as critical in a Time Machine backup. If it is not USB, SoftRAID will still track SMART data on the drive, regardless of disk format.

@softraid-support that’s fair, but again this enclosure is a time machine for the OS and software ON THE computer. It is a hand sized 2 TB single drive who’s sole and only purpose is to make up a backup of the OS and programs/software/documents, including softraid, on the physical computer. So that if the computer fails I can take the time machine to another computer(Mac) restore and carry on without having to download ever update/software to the new system and continue with out much delay. More or less it’s a redundancy in case of error, and keeps the information/data on OWC drives isolated from non essential data related to what’s on the drive.

I still find it strange that the base software has that utility feature and doesn’t carry forward until you hit the top tier of the softraid. I can understand limiting it in the base and adding more utilitarian abilities as you purchase the higher tiers.

I mean I choose to upgrade my OWC Thunder Bay drives to the flex and have a third party small enclosure as my time machine yet I can do nothing in the softraid software with it. Yet the lite version will support third party enclosures?
