Try running AJA System test or black magic overnight. (AJA seems more intense)

64GB file size, continuous.

If there is a hardware issue, AJA should help you trigger it.

Also, when this happened, run SoftRAID immediately and see if either a disk is missing, or in the log, if it shows a disk ejecting/hanging.

I don't see how there can be an issue. Samsungs have some Mac compatibility issues, with the top end lines, but I have not had any reports with toshibas.

IIRC, I never had issues with the DB residing on a Thunderbay + 4 x Mercury Extreme Pro configured in RAID5.

More recently I've switched to an Express TB3 + 4 x Toshiba RD-400. I remember reading that RD-400 weren't designed for RAID systems, but people at OWC told me that they didn't experience issues. But this is the nag that explains why I am suspecting hardware issue. Benchmarking (Black Magic) showed excellent results. The system works generally very well, but for the occasional hang, typically when there's a lot of read/write activity. Today it crashed on a FLUSH TABLES .. FOR EXPORT statement -- something innocuous that points to a hardware problem.

I'll move the DB back to the TB2 / Mercury enclosure.

If anyone can suggest diagnostic steps, I'd appreciate.

Thanks
