A portable fan would help, yes. If the drives are not getting hot, they are likely OK, but a fan does not hurt.
Times predicted vary greatly, as rotating media performs very differently on the outer tracks than inner tracks.

yes the drives are pretty warm but not hot. I just checked the progress and the time has dropped back to 73 hours.
Should I stop the process then? I have a Mercury Elite Dual enclosure. If I do that, would I set up my RAID first, then run the Certify?

Would blowing air with a portable fan towards the drives help with the heat?

Certify takes about 1 day per 2TB of capacity, so 7 days seems correct.

Are the drives getting hot? Temperature can be a concern on drives. Why not certify them in an enclosure? Its not recommended to use drives long term in drive docks, as there is no cooling. or at least use a fan on them.

I am Certifying 2 14TB WD Gold drives.
Using SoftRaid 7.6.1. The 2 drives are in my OWC Drive Dock.

I started the process last night and it said 80 hours to complete the task. This morning it's up to 150 hours and keeps rising.

My questions:

Does this sound reasonable? It's almost an entire week.
Would Certifying one drive at a time speed up the process?
I'm worried that running the Drive Dock for a week straight would cause damage.

Any advice.
