The drives are "Missing", indeed. This is a hardware issue, not MacOS or SoftRAID.

If you send the other licenses, I won't post them, but can check what they are. this computer is running SoftRAID Standard. You can simply "Change serial number" to enter your other Premium license. (They can be moved as much as you want)

I will guess the two missing drives are next to each other in the enclosure. Am I correct? If so, its likely a faulty PCI bridge in the enclosure (as generally manufacturers use 2 drive slots per PCI bridge)

Thanks for the reply. I had been working with two Yottamaster drive bays with multiple drives, which did not come with Softraid. I used Apple Disk Utility to make a Raid, and when I lost data, I bought a Logitech (Japanese brand, separate from Logi the well known company) 4-bay disk, which also did not come with Softraid. I purchased a license so I could set up a Raid 10 setup. Almost immediately I had "a disk is missing" while running Mac OS 15 (although it could have happened back during Mac OS 14.x, not sure), and I made sure "spin down disks when not in use" was off, based on what I read on your website. My paid license ends in E1A2 and the email is peterpayne@gmail.com.

Two days ago, I decided to back up a large folder of files to another (non-raid) disk. It copied for a while, but then two of the volumes (out of 4) went "missing." When I tried to verify them but got "operation requres a premium license." I am logged in to the paid license (E1A2), I think, so I should not be asked to sign up for a premium license when I have one. I have two free licenses ending in AFC9 and 8B46, but when I click Verify License, it says yes, I am currently assigned to that machine (called Mac Mini). But I can't Validate my disks to get them back.

So please let me know what's up, thanks.

Check the license under the enclosure for SoftRAID is there. (or inside the front door). Most enclosures come with SoftRAID, so you shoulds not have had to purchase anything extra for 3 years.
(I won't post your license number)
What is the "super premium" license you refer to? There is only one paid for license for SoftRAID, Premium, and Standard, which is free.

So, I buy a BRAND NEW Japanese 4-bay disk and install four BRAND NEW disks. I install Softraid, angry that I need to spend money annually if I want to reformat a disk, but whatever, OWC has been a important company in the history of the Mac, I guess I'll bite. Things are fine for 1-2 months, but then I decide to move a bunch of files from my RAID to another big disk that I keep handy (because I don't trust OWC in the end). Good thing I had the other backup, since the act of copying files makes TWO of my disks "disappear." Missing two of my four disks, fun!

I am using Sequoia, and I gather there's an issue with the OS trying to "spin down" my "hard drives." This already cause one disk to croak temporarily, but I was able to retire it. But this time, two disks are dead, does this mean I've lost data?

But wait, since I'm paying big bucks for this software, I'll try to Validate my disks. But I get an error saying I need a Premium License to do that. Despite me having a Premium License, which ends in 3E1A2. So do I need a Double Premium License? My license is active, or seems to be when I click to verify my license. The license is active and good through November of 2025 (though why anyone would continue to pay for software like this is beyond me).

I just deactivated and re-activated my license just to verify, and got the same message when trying to verify the disks, which means to recover my disks I must need a Super Premium $1999 license instead of the lowly $149 license that I did purchase. If this is not the case, I suggest the staff of OWC give me technical support QUICKLY. I'm preparing a full report of this situation to Reddit, and my account has 80k of karma.
