Perhaps I can use this method from now on.

Is it normal for each of the drives to still make sounds as if the drives were getting accessed after they are unmounted? (each drive makes a single click every 5-8 seconds as if a file is getting accessed - but the green activity lights are not lit).

According to a previous post on this forum, I unmounted the drive and waited up to an hour before switching off the unit without any different outcome. After un-mounting, the 4 drives in the array still make the random access clicking sounds as if the array is still mounted.
