I was thinking of creating a NAS using one or more of my TB4 raids, running off a 2018 Mac mini.
Are there any best practices to using TB4 SR volumes as NAS volumes?
Is there a better way that mounting them with a Mac mini?
cheers
the only way is set up file sharing on the Mini. You can share any volume, including a SoftRAID volume.
Right. I was just wondering if there was anything "special" I could do to maximize bandwidth and speed across the network with SR.
Cheers
No. But you can be aware of some 10g issues, which can hamper performance. Some adapters do not give good results. If you are not getting 10g results (assuming you are networking with 10g), google around.
Sadly, I have only now come to realize that the Mac min I am cannibalizing for this does not have the 10g option. I bought it with just the 1g. I am sure this is going to be an issue...
Standard 1g may be adequate, unless you are really pushing data.
it is intended as a video server for editing.
Is there a cost effective way to upgrade to a 10g config without breaking the bank?
You can purchase third party 10G/Thunderbolt adapters.
Some of those have a possible issue, but I am not up to speed on that, without asking/researching.
