I just upgraded from SoftRAID Pro 5.8.4 to 6.0.1 on my Mac. I'm horrified to see that the Email Notification feature is now completely gone. This is a scary downgrade, as the Mac this is operating on is an unattended one.
Will Email Notification be returning in a future update?
We are having to rewrite that code completely. It will make a return in the future at some point.
@twilliams. Yeah, sad to see that the Email Notification has been removed for now. I totally understand that there are more important bugfixes, regarding M1 mac, Big Sur and Apple's ongoing system changes.
The missing Email Notification keeps me from switching to SoftRAID 6. I do not want to run my Macs without notification.
Thanks for bringing this up. I would also like to throw my vote behind making email notifications a priority. Hopefully it can be added back again soon as it unfortunate to "upgrade" only to find out an important feature was removed.
Is the email feature already implemented in version 6.1?
Not yet, we pushed it out a little further, but are working on it.
Will you bring ever back email notification? Another year is gone. Since SoftRAID 6 and also v7 notification has been removed. It is an essential feature which holds me back from upgrading.
I understand. What happened was because of major bugs in the freely avaiable email helper apps, we decided to "Write our own" email client. This became unsustainable to maintain, which is why it was dropped in SoftRAID 6, there were too many issues.
We do intend to add it back. But the last 3 years of issues with MacOS security, plus rewriting the driver for M1, took all the bandwidth.
I think next year it is one of the priorities to get this back in.
Any update on bringing back Email Notification?
At present, it is on the list for SoftRAID 8, spring next year, is the target. No promises, however.
