Currently I don't need the extra 6TB. I think I will wait until the others drives die and I replace them all with the same size.

RAID requires all partitions to be identical in size.

Strange. I thought this only applies to RAID 5 and others. I use RAID 0. I thought they just add all the drives together.

I used this calculator:

https://www.synology.com/de-de/support/RAID_calculator?hdds=10%20TB|4%20TB|4%20TB|4%20TB|4%20TB

Maybe this just applies for Synology NAS and not for all RAID 0 in general?

Thank you for your reply.

I have another question:

Do you recommend using the LaCie 5big with the hardware RAID or use it via SoftRaid? I will lose some speed due to software, but on the other hand I have more infos about S.M.A.R.T of the single drives.

Some enclosures have something similar to RAID that uses different drives to make a larger volume, but it is not really RAID, and is more prone to problems.

Hello,

I use a LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2. I had 5 4tb drives in it. One drive failed and I decided to replace it with a 10TB. Now I should have 26TB. But I can only use 20TB in the Hardware Raid config. So I thought maybe it is a limitation of the hardware RAID controller. So I used JBOD and created a SoftRAID RAID. But I can only choose 20TB here as well.

Can you help me out?

Is it a problem with SoftRAID, with the LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2 or maybe with the drive?
