Adding Secondary Disk = Reboot/Crash on M1 Mac

I would disable automatic rebuilds in Mirror preferences. Connect the disks and "remove disk".

restart and add it again, let me know if it fails or succeeds. After you add it, manually start the rebuild from the volumes menu.

• @softraid-support ok I disabled the automatic rebuilds. Remove it then added it but it did made an automatic rebuild. It rebooted. So I started with the disk unplugged. Connected it it. I did a manual rebuild the computer just reboots as well.

You did more than I asked. Lets go slow. If you connect it and it does NOT rebuild, and ti does not instant restart, then good. Now, "remove disk". Does that work?

Are you adding a third secondary to the volume? It is already a mirror. I dont see this in the log, is why I am asking. Maybe there is a newer Support file you can attach? I see your Mirror, B 4TB RAID 1. It is a older volume.

What disk are you trying to add to it? There are no more SoftRAID disks connected, which is why I am confused here.

Sometimes, it does. Here's a screenshot when it doesn't automatically restarts. Yes, I was able to "remove" the disk.

No, I am NOT adding a third volume. It's only a 2 disk enclosure. RAID 1. See "A 4TB RAID". The "B 4 TB RAID" is just another SoftRAID RAID 1 volume.

New tech support file

The support file does not match your screen capture, which is odd. The support file (which should be identical to your environment), shows the mirror as OK (two disks and working) and the second volume as unmounted.

How about restarting and create a new support file? then I can be sure we are on the same page.

You are wanting to add the unmounted volume / disk to the B 4TB volume? or did you only want two disks in the Mirror?'the mirror is working. the one with missing secondary disks is a separate volume, and has different amounts of files. So I am unclear on your objective at this point, but it seems you are close.

The volume in question is "A 4TB RAID 1". The one with the exclamation mark icon. I am trying to add a newly installed/certified/initialized drive (Western Digital 4 TB).

Each time I try to "Add Secondary Disk", it reboots my computer. I followed your previous instructions but each time I add, it does an automatic rebuilt then it reboots. Even when I do a manual rebuild, it reboots. That's the problem.

Does that volume mount?

@softraid-support Yes, "A 4 TB RAID 1" mounts but it's missing 1 disk. See screenshot below, as soon as I add the new disk, it automatically rebuilds then reboots or when I manually do a rebuild, it reboots.

I understand. I was asking about mounting as it was always unmounted. If the volume was damaged, and not mountable, perhaps explained your issue.

What happens if you "convert" to non RAID?

Then try "convert" to Mirror? Does it work or crash?

I am able to convert the new drive into a "non-RAID" but when I try to convert the volume into it to a SoftRAID mirror RAID 1. I get this...

Its because you converted, the partition maps do not quite match. Use "resize volume" on the volume and resize it down 1GB or so. Then it will work.
