Once you unmount the volume, it is released.

Try restarting, unmount the volume and try again. Sorry about this, it should be easier. I don't know what is holding onto the volume.

However, I did "Disable Safeguard" and "Erase" it and it works. Also, I tried "Removing Disk" but that did not work.

 

I have been having trouble with another volume so I tried diagnosing it before using Disk Utility by using First Aid but that didn't do anything.

 

What else can you recommend to resolve this? I would like to create a new volume asap.

These Boot OSX volumes are hidden partitions. They should not show up, they are harmless, but annoying. macOS X is supposed to suppress them, as they are protected volumes.

Did you do anything like repair your SoftRAID volumes with Disk Utility? Anything you can think of that is unique?
