                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Personally, unless you have the specific requirement that all data be on one set of disks, use another volume for your new enclosure. It is not that there is a "tipping" point, but you are tying all data to a single volume, with 12 disks in it. 

We believe it is optimal to have all enclosures "striped", i.e, so each enclosure is self sufficient for mounting the volume. You can use the blink disk light feature to accomplish this when creating the volume. inside an enclosure, it should make no difference, but users often set it up to visually understand how it is configured.]]></content:encoded>

My question is if I add the 3rd array to the raid 10 will I reach a tipping point i.e. 12 disks are more exposed than 8 disks, 3 enclosures are more exposed than 2 or am I improving my overall safety level all combined.

2nd question
What is the optimum safety config i.e. select stripe pairs from alternate enclosures and mirror pairs from alternate enclosures and disks where possible, is there any history for layout optimisation.
